Ai-Media was founded as an Australian captioning company in 2003: a social enterprise dedicated to making a difference for people who are deaf or who have difficulty hearing.
It introduced captioning services to subscription television in 2004, including live captioning services for sports and news. In 2014, Ai-Media expanded its captioning to free to air television as the caption provider for the Nine Network Australia.
Since 2006, Ai-Media has used its expertise in live captioning to develop its game-changing Ai-Live technology. Using re-speaking software, Ai-Live delivers live captioning on portable devices (such as iPads or laptops) to hearing impaired people in schools, universities and workplaces as well as at conferences.
Ai-Media’s aim is to overcome disadvantage by using creative technology solutions for disability, deafness, autism and English as an additional language, and by improving teacher practice.

Ai-Media Live Captioning Quality Exceeds 99.5% in Record Fourth Successive Quarter
12 August 2016
Australia’s leading broadcast captioning provider and speech-to-text innovator, Ai-Media, has extended its record high quality and captioning uptime scores. For the quarter ending 30 June 2016, Ai-Media recorded quality results over 99.5%, and uptime exceeding 99.9%.
The independent audit result announced today is based on the auditor scoring 13 television programs at random across services delivered to Nine Network Australia. Quality is assessed using NER methodology (Number, Edition error and Recognition error), which measures the speed of captions, the delay between speech and caption text, and the number and types of errors.
“Quality is the forefront of our service delivery. We are delighted to have achieved an average quality result greater than 99.5% for four successive quarters. We remain committed to transparency in reporting and always look for opportunities to improve.” Ai-Media CEO, Tony Abrahams said.
